I got a call for a job interview on Friday. The way the lady on the phone made the job seem like it was doing financial counseling classes for low to middle income people. Then I researched the company. Nope. Definitely sales and almost pyramid schemish.
I won this at Geneva on the lake by playing games. One day my useless skills will actually come in handy.
Most likely the owner will win. The shutting down of the street is causing a loss of money due to the property not being able to be used. This is considered a taking even if it is temporary (see First English vs Los Angeles County). Look at me using my degree!
Guide To Kulchur: Making a Zine Co-op & Archive
Some amazing folks in my hometown are opening a zine co-op/archive and bookstore in the Gordon Square Arts District- one of my favorite parts of town and the neighborhood I called home before moving to Columbus. I am excited beyond words over this project (as well as sad that I am no longer there so I can’t be a part of it). It’s one of the raddest things to happen in Cleveland in a long time, and something our city desperately needs.
From the campaign page:
The goal of the co-op is to bring people to a space to write, share their thoughts in real time with “flesh-and-blood” members of their own community. The co-op will provide space and resources for zine making, as well as for the production of flyers, stickers, paper-making, and any other project related to the printed word. The space will become a storehouse of collage materials, ink, pens, paint, and other art materials…We would like for Cleveland to be the site of one of the largest publicly held collections of this resistance, and while we do not believe this will be the fix to all that ails Cleveland, we would like to be a part of documenting its evolution, we would like to help facilitate in Cleveland’s dialogue with other cities- those traces of resistance are everywhere. They should hear from us as well?

So I was on the train today and these two black guys were having a conversation not even that loud and said “nigga” like once when this white lady turns around and says “How do you think MLK Jr. would feel about you using that kind of language” and one of the guys snaps back and said “Idk maybe if your people didn’t shoot him I would know”

Don’t Forget Your Roots
Back in the 90’s my grandmother was super into genealogy. She hasn’t been doing too well in the past few years so it’s a mad scramble to get names with faces in pictures, who was married to who, etc… So my mom found a print out from the 90’s of a bunch of family members and how we are related going so far as third cousins. It has their names and birth dates so I figured I’d look up some of them who had unique names up on facebook who were around my age. I actually found a bunch of them, which is kinda’ neat in a creep stalkerish way.
I also experienced a true first world problem when I tried to look up some of the names from the 1800’s on Ellis Island’s website but then realized they came over before Ellis Island existed. I think I found a way to fill the void of no school.
